A New Opportunity to Dance with Blacksburg Ballet
Dear Dance Community,
We are excited to introduce a brand-new program from Blacksburg Ballet designed to make ballet more accessible to young dancers in our community.
Beginning in the 2026–2027 season, Blacksburg Ballet’s Performance Class for dancers ages 8–12 will offer FREE tuition. This new program is a meaningful step toward fulfilling our mission of providing affordable access to dance education and performance opportunities for all.
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience the confidence, creativity, discipline, and joy that dance provides—regardless of previous experience or financial barriers. This introductory class welcomes dancers with little to no prior ballet training and provides a supportive environment to learn ballet fundamentals, build skills, and experience the excitement of performing.
The year will include four 8-week sessions:
Session 1: Intro to Ballet (August 19–October 7)
Session 2: Nutcracker Preparation (October 14–December 9)
Session 3: Intro to Ballet (January 20–March 10)
Session 4: Spring Performance Preparation (March 17–May 12)
As the Directors of Blacksburg Ballet, we are proud to make this investment in our community and remove one of the biggest barriers families face when exploring dance: the cost of tuition. Through this program, we hope to welcome new dancers, expand access to the arts, and create more opportunities for children to discover the lifelong benefits of dance.
This program is made possible through our partnership with Dance.tech, which will serve as the host studio by providing studio space and faculty support. This collaboration allows Blacksburg Ballet to expand our programming while continuing to provide quality dance education and performance experiences.
While tuition is fully subsidized, dancers participating in performances will have a $50 performance fee that includes costume rental, technical and dress rehearsals, and digital media. Performance tickets are purchased separately through the Center for the Arts.
To register, visit the Dance.tech Customer Portal and select “Blacksburg Ballet – Intro to Ballet” when enrolling.
We are honored to launch this new program and look forward to welcoming dancers into the Blacksburg Ballet family. Thank you to everyone who supports our mission and helps us continue making dance accessible to our community.
With gratitude,
Paige Guynn, Nina Kempic & Abby Heffner
