TECHNIQUE DANCE CLASSES FOR AGES 6+

As dancers grow, they’re ready for more structure, technique, and progression. Our Ages 6+ program gives dancers in Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Radford, and the New River Valley a long-term path to build foundational technique, explore new styles, and gain the confidence to perform on stage.

Whether your dancer is new to dance or continuing from earlier levels, Dance.tech offers a clear, supportive pathway for growth.

Why Ages 6+ Is a Critical Stage for Long-Term Dance Success

Ages 6–10 are where dancers experience major leaps in:

Dance.tech supports each dancer with age-appropriate training that prepares them for higher levels, recital performances, Nutcracker roles, and the Stars/Company programs as they grow.

A Clear Pathway From Beginner to Advanced

Beginner Technique Pathway (Ages 6–8)

Best for dancers new to technique or transitioning from Spotlight Dance.

Dancers build strong foundations in:

• Ballet I – positions, balance, posture, beginning turns, traveling steps

• Jazz I – isolations, leaps, kicks, musicality

• Tap I – patterns, rhythm, clarity of sound

• Intro Acro – flexibility, strength, cartwheels, bridges

• Hip Hop I – age-appropriate combos, rhythm, confidence

• Lyrical Foundations – emotional expression and flow

At this level, dancers learn structure, class etiquette, and confidence—setting them up for continued success in all styles.

Intermediate Technique Pathway (Ages 8–10)

For dancers ready for greater challenge and refinement.

Dancers expand their training through:

• Ballet II – stronger technique, turns, barre skills

• Jazz II – bigger leaps, stronger lines

• Acro II – more strength, tumbling variations

• Tap II – pickups, pullbacks, timing challenges

• Lyrical I/II – musical storytelling

• Hip Hop II – more intricate patterns

• Musical Theater I – acting through movement

This level builds stamina, versatility, and performance skills.

Advancing Technique Pathway (Ages 10+)

For dancers who are committed, experienced, and ready to excel.

Includes:

• Ballet III – foundational level for pre-pointe readiness

• Extended Ballet Technique – strength, alignment, precision

• Jazz III – advanced jumps, turns, and style

• Lyrical II/III – complex choreography

• Hip Hop III – higher speed, sharper execution

• Acro III – advanced strength and flexibility work

• Musical Theater II – expressive stage presence skills

These dancers are building the technique required for:

✨ Stars Program
✨ Performance Company
✨ Competitive roles (if applicable in the future)

Performance Opportunities for Ages 6+

As dancers progress, so do their performance opportunities.

Ages 6+ dancers can participate in:

• The Nutcracker Ballet (December)

• The Spring Recital (May)

• Community Performances & Showcases

• Optional audition-based programs as they grow

These events build confidence, teamwork, discipline, and stage experience—skills that translate far beyond the studio.

Dress Code for Ages 6+ Technique Classes

For safety, consistency, and confidence, dancers should wear:

Ballet

• Leotard (assigned class color)

• Pink tights

• Ballet shoes

• Hair in bun or secured off the face

Jazz / Musical Theater / Lyrical

• Leotard + leggings/shorts

• Tan jazz shoes

• Hair pulled back

Tap

• Tan tap shoes

Hip Hop

• Comfortable dancewear

• Clean indoor sneakers

Acro

• Leotard or fitted tank + shorts

• Barefoot

Tuition for Ages 6+ Technique Classes

Tuition is based on weekly class minutes:

• 30 minutes/week: $32 per month

• 45 minutes/week: $55 per month

• 60 minutes/week: $68 per month

• Additional classes: $10 discount

This flexible structure supports families who want to try one class—or build a multi-style dance schedule.
