Studio Policies & Tuition

Welcome to Dance.tech’s Studio Community

Dance.tech is proud to serve families throughout Blacksburg and the New River Valley, now in our 27th season of providing high-quality dance education. The policies below help us maintain a safe, positive, and professional learning environment for all dancers. We encourage parents to review these guidelines carefully so your dancer can get the most out of their experience at our studio.

Membership Policy

Dance.tech operates on a continuous enrollment membership system, making it easy for families across Blacksburg and the New River Valley to stay registered without losing their dancer’s class placement.

Annual Membership Fee

The non-refundable rollover membership fee for the 2025–2026 season will be billed on May 15, 2025.

Families who wish to opt out must notify the studio no later than May 1, 2025 to avoid automatic enrollment for the new season.

The current membership fee amount is listed in the tuition section above.

Loyalty Benefit — FREE Membership!

Families with 10+ consecutive years of enrollment receive FREE Membership as a thank-you for their long-term commitment to the Dance.tech community.

Attendance & Absence Policy

Consistent attendance supports technique, confidence, and choreography. Please notify the studio if your dancer will be absent.

  • Makeup classes may be possible depending on level, schedule, and space.

  • Excessive absences may affect participation in performances.

Parent Observation

We love sharing your dancer’s progress!

  • All classes can be viewed at any time on our CCTV monitors in the lobby.

  • In-studio observation days occur every 6–8 weeks, when parents, friends, and family may enter the classroom for the full lesson.

To support a positive class experience:

  • Quiet, respectful participation is expected

  • Cell phones should be silenced

  • Siblings must remain supervised and quiet

  • Please avoid distracting movement or conversation during observation

Dress Code & Class Expectations

Dance.tech maintains a dress code to ensure safety, proper movement, discipline, and professionalism.

General Requirements

  • Appropriate class attire based on discipline

  • Hair secured away from the face

  • Proper dance shoes for each style

  • No jewelry that may interfere with movement

Full dress code details are provided during registration and are available at the front desk.

Studio Etiquette & Behavior

We value respect, kindness, and a positive learning environment. Dancers are expected to:

  • Arrive on time and prepared for class

  • Listen respectfully to instructors

  • Support and encourage fellow dancers

  • Care for the studio space and equipment

Parents and family members are encouraged to model and support positive behavior.

Safety & Facility Guidelines

The safety of our dancers is a top priority. Please follow these guidelines:

  • Only registered students may enter the dance rooms

  • Young dancers must be escorted into the building

  • No food or drink (other than water) inside classrooms

  • Parents should remain available during class for young dancers with separation concerns

Inclement Weather Policy

Dance.tech follows Montgomery County Public Schools for inclement weather closings. If schools close or dismiss early due to weather, the studio may also close.

Updates will be posted via:

  • Email

  • Social media

  • Website announcements

Classes canceled due to weather may be rescheduled or offered as virtual sessions when possible.

Performance & Recital Policies

Dance.tech offers performance opportunities throughout the year, including our annual productions and select community events across Blacksburg and the New River Valley.

Costume Fees
Costume fees are collected in advance for recital participation. All balances must be paid before costumes are distributed.

Rehearsals
Rehearsal attendance is mandatory for participating dancers. Failure to attend required rehearsals may affect a dancer’s ability to perform.

Photo & Liability Waiver

By registering for the 2025–2026 dance season (in-person or via the Jackrabbit Portal), families acknowledge they have read and agree to all Dance.tech studio policies.

By enrolling, families also:

  • Release Dance.tech and its employees from any claims arising from injury

  • Provide consent for medical treatment in an emergency

  • Permit Dance.tech to use photos and video of dancers for advertising and online materials

  • Consent remains valid for five years from the date of registration

Withdrawal Policy

If a dancer needs to withdraw, please submit written notice to info@dance-tech.com. Withdrawals are effective at the end of the current month. Tuition will not be refunded for classes already attended.

Refunds & Account Credit

All payments made to Dance.tech — including tuition, camps, costumes, and competition entry fees — are non-refundable.

If an over-payment occurs for any reason, the remaining balance will be credited to your Dance.tech account and may be applied to future tuition, fees, or studio purchases.

This policy helps us maintain fairness and consistency for all families in the Blacksburg and New River Valley community.

Lost and Found & Studio Security

Lost & Found

A Lost and Found basket is located in each dressing room. We encourage families to check these bins regularly, as unclaimed items are periodically donated.

To help prevent loss, please label all shoes, bags, and accessories with your dancer’s name.

Studio Safety & Security

For the safety of our dancers and families, motion-activated security cameras are installed in public areas throughout the studio. Cameras are not placed in restrooms or private changing areas.
