Pointe is a specialized ballet discipline designed for dancers who have developed the strength, alignment, and foundational technique needed to safely rise onto pointe. Pre-Pointe supports dancers who are preparing for beginning pointe work by strengthening ankles, feet, core, and turnout.

Dance.tech’s Pointe Program serves dancers from Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Radford, and throughout the New River Valley, providing structured, safe progression for ballet students moving into advanced technique.

Pointe Training with Intention

Pointe is not simply the next step—it is a progression that requires physical strength, technical foundation, and instructor guidance.

At Dance.tech, pointe classes are thoughtfully structured to:

  • Build strength and alignment needed for pointe work

  • Reinforce safe technique and proper placement

  • Support dancers as they transition into pointe gradually

  • Encourage confidence through preparation and consistency

Readiness for pointe is guided by instructor evaluation and ongoing observation, ensuring that dancers are supported at every stage of development.

What Dancers Work On

Through focused barre and center work, dancers concentrate on:

  • Strengthening feet, ankles, and lower leg muscles

  • Proper alignment and balance

  • Controlled articulation and placement

  • Musicality and clarity of movement

  • Safe technique and mindful execution

Progress is measured through consistency, control, and overall readiness rather than speed.

What Is Pointe?

Pointe is for dancers who are physically, technically, and artistically ready to advance their ballet training by dancing en pointe. This level introduces:

  • safe weight placement on pointe

  • rise and relevé control

  • strengthening at the barre and in center

  • progressive pointe combinations

  • balance and stability

  • musicality and artistry

Pointe dancers must demonstrate readiness through instructor evaluation.

Performance Opportunities

Pointe work may be incorporated into studio choreography or performance opportunities such as the Spring Recital, depending on level and readiness.

Performance experiences are introduced thoughtfully, with dancer safety and confidence as priorities.

What Is Pre-Pointe?

Pre-Pointe is designed for dancers who are building the strength and technique required for future pointe work. This class focuses on:

  • ankle and foot strengthening

  • turnout stability

  • proper alignment

  • core engagement

  • balance, posture, and control

Pre-Pointe dancers work in flat ballet shoes while developing the technical foundation needed for safe pointe readiness.
